The Stepping Stones We Leave Behind

Every generation needs a stepping stone.

Something that makes the journey a little easier for the person coming after us. Something we learnt, built, understood or created that allows someone else to go a little further than we did.

And I think that is one of the responsibilities we have to the next generation.

We cannot simply tell young people to “do better” or “go further” without giving them something to stand on.

One of those stepping stones is education.

Because, really, we only know as much as we learn.

And we can only begin to change what we know.

There are things we accept simply because we have never been taught to question them. There are opportunities we never reach because we never knew they existed. There are dreams we never dream because we have never seen anyone like us achieve them.

Sometimes, education is the thing that changes that.

It opens a door and says, “Look. There is more.”

And that is where the power of knowledge comes in.

We often say knowledge is power , but I think the real power is in what that knowledge allows us to do.

A girl who learns about her rights can begin to advocate for herself.

A young woman who is given an education can begin to imagine a different future.

Someone who learns a skill can use that skill to create an income, support a family, or even teach someone else.

One person's knowledge can become another person's opportunity.

And that is how change happens.

Not always through one big moment.

Sometimes it is one girl being given a scholarship.

One woman learning something new.

One person sharing what they know with someone else.

And then that person doing the same.

One stepping stone becomes another

This is why the work we do at The Grace Abound Foundation matters to us.

Our scholarship programme is not simply about paying school fees. It is about creating access. It is about giving a young person the opportunity to learn, grow and see possibilities that may have otherwise remained out of reach.

Because when we invest in education, we are not only investing in who that person is today.

We are investing in who they can become

And perhaps even more importantly, who they will help become.

The next generation does not need us to have everything figured out.

They need us to leave something behind.

Knowledge.

Opportunity.

Community.

Encouragement.

A little more access than we had.

A few more stepping stones.

Because one day, they will walk further than we did.

And when they do, I hope they remember that someone thought about the road ahead and decided to make it a little easier.

That is the kind of change we want to be part of.
