Left Behind but Lifted by Grace

On the 5th and 6th of December, 2007, we got married. We had three children together. In the beginning, things were fine; he was working as a bank official, earning about ₦250,000 monthly. But after some years, he was laid off during a staff downsizing. That’s when his true character began to show.

When our rent expired, we couldn't afford to renew it and were asked to move out. Our children had to stay home because we could no longer pay their school fees. Things became really hard. We were advised to move in with his parents, but I declined.

Eventually, we relocated to Ogun State, managing to live in a single room. Then, one faithful day, I came across a group on Facebook and met Mom Ikepo (Founder). I opened up about my situation, and she took us in like her own family. That’s how we found The Grace Abound For Women Foundation.

Through the foundation, my children's school fees were paid, our rent was covered, and even a driver’s license was renewed for him so he could find driving work. I also got a teaching job and started selling zobo and puff puff to sustain our daily needs.

He later got a job as a school bus driver, and not long after, a parent helped him secure a better job as a company driver, but it meant moving permanently to Akure. Once he left for Akure, everything changed.

Suddenly, his number became unreachable. I contacted his friends, but they all denied knowing his whereabouts. I called his mother, and she told me to move on, saying that he already had. She said they believed I was the reason for his misfortune. He blocked me on all social media platforms, and that was the end. We couldn’t reach him for years.

I was left to carry the burden alone. I went through hell.

But God used The Grace Abound for Women Foundation to lift me when I least expected it. At the time, my first daughter was in JSS2 and my second child in JSS1 when their father abandoned us.

To the glory of God and through the help of Grace Abound, my first daughter gained admission in November 2024 to Kwara State University. My second daughter just completed her WAEC, and my last child wrote Junior WAEC this year.

Then one day, out of nowhere, their father showed up, trying to fight for the custody of the very children he had abandoned for over four years. He beat me when I refused. I stood my ground and reported him to Women Affairs. He was served a letter, and since then, he ran away again and never returned.

We have faced starvation, hardship, and deep pain. We used to go from house to house washing, fetching water, and doing chores. I made and sold zobo drinks just to survive.

But today, I own a POS business and a gas refilling shop. God has been faithful. He’s the one taking care of my children, and He will continue to do so.

To all the beautiful, selfless women at The Grace Abound for Women Foundation, thank you.

May God reward you all.

We love you dearly. 💕
